Sometimes you might see other companies selling “aftermarket” watches. What does this mean?

It means that the watches have replica parts. We are also seeing dealers use the term “custom made” to refer to the same thing: Fake parts. This could mean that the bracelet, the case or the diamonds set in a watch are not original parts but copies. These watches usually have some original parts, such as the movement but the entire watch cannot be considered an original unless all its parts are from the original manufacturer.

Obviously, having fake parts on the watch will affect the value so buyers need to be careful when purchasing watches.

Our policy at First State Auctions is not to sell any watches unless ALL of the parts are genuine – and we GUARANTEE that.

So, be aware when you see the terms “aftermarket” or “custom made” when buying watches. Unfortunately we are seeing a lot of these “aftermarket” watches on the market, and many of these watches are being sold without any disclosure.
